Near Death Experiences often happen to people who have been clinically dead and then successfully resuscitated. When someone has cardiac arrest the blood flow to the brain stops and within few seconds the brain activity that supports consciousness also shuts down, so the fact that people report clear conscious and coherent experience during this state is very interesting.
